Team 4 - What's important here?
Description
A six-year-old child named Sam enters the emergency department accompanied by her daycare’s early childhood educator (Zara).
Sam fell and injured her leg at daycare and requires medical attention. The emergency triage nurse (Carmen) takes her into an assessment room to be examined.
There is a custody arrangement for Sam and both parents show up with concerns about the plan of treatment.
The daycare’s social worker (Shanti) arrives soon after and is aware of the legal arrangements for health decisions for the child.
Tensions rise as COVID-19 only allows one parent to enter the building which is attempted to be managed by the hospital’s safety manager (Chinedu).
The hospital’s social worker (Lucy) joins the crowded assessment room and disagreements arise as the social workers have differing priorities for Sam’s provision of care.
Shanti, as a parent herself, favours for the parents to be present, understanding the situation and concerns of the parents.
Nurse Carmen attempts to complete an assessment of the child’s injuries but it becomes increasingly difficult over the loud interactions between social workers Shanti and Lucy.
