Group 3 - Dinner Party Conflict
Description
Our conflict scenario took place at a dinner party. A disagreement between two co-workers escalated into a heated debate about Canadian government proposal on cutting funding to affordable housing. As the discussion grew more intense, a third colleague fueled the conflict further.
This conflict was driven by different views on the topic; where by one sided argued that a lack of affordable housing increases homelessness & places greater burden on healthcare, while the other believed that maintaining programs comes with high administrative costs and reducing funding would help addresses the national debt and stabilize the economy. Past comments made outside of the workplace also creeped in that affected the conversation. Each person’s professional background influenced their perspective, leading to a debate over whose views were morally correct. What began as a social discussion soon turned personal, creating a conflict among the three colleagues. The unresolved tension was carried over into the workplace, making it harder for them to work together and creating an uncomfortable work environment.
