CFNY405 - Group 2 - Winter 2016
Description
The following meeting takes place in a comfortable room that is located at the Scarborough Village Recreation Centre. The researcher, Dario, has arranged the chairs in a circle so that every group member will be able to see each other and clearly communicate their thoughts with one another. It is a casual, comfortable and relaxed environment for group members to work collaboratively in. Once all group members have arrived, Dario begins the meeting by introducing himself on both a personal and professional level. Not only does he talk a bit about the purpose of the research group, but he also tries to relate to the group members on a personal level by explaining his own struggles with food security as he is the father of four children and has not always had stable employment. Dario then lays out some guidelines for the meeting, including the fact that the group is a judgement-free zone, that personal information that is shared during the meeting is not to be shared with others, and that there are no right or wrong answers. Dario then asks each participant to introduce themselves and to briefly discuss their ideas of what an ideal “food future” would look like to them. The group members go around the circle and each take their turn to express their feelings. The video begins.
