Team 5: Reopening Lake Devo Elementary

Description

It is early 2021 and the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, though the case numbers have subsided somewhat. At Lake Devo Public Elementary School, there is soon going to be a meeting with key stakeholders (school board, parent council, families, local government) about opening the school and allowing students to return to in-person classes. A subcomittee is created consisting of two nurses, two Early Childhood Educators (ECEs), and two social workers to create and present some possible strategies to aid in reopening. However, the nurses and ECEs have taken opposing positions on reopening and have refused to begin conversations. Among other arguments, the nurses are concerned about the impact of further outbreaks on the healthcare system, while the ECEs are concerned with how this prolonged absence has affected mental health and education of children. The social workers, seeing the merit on both sides, call a meeting where they will act as mediators for communication. Will the group be able to resolve their conflict in time for the final meeting? Stay tuned...
