Contagious Conversations: A Feast of Fear
Description
The conflict starts/escalates at a dinner party when some individuals bring up how
COVID-19 had a much greater impact on their discipline and others disagree. This
creates tension within the group because many individuals struggled and felt helpless in
this uncertain time and implying that only one discipline was the most burdened didn’t sit right with anyone. Eventually this escalates into an argument. However, it starts deescalating
when Babypreet (social service worker) calmly takes the role of a mediator and
urges everyone to calmly address their points. The mediator facilitates an active dialogue to allow each idea to be presented and each discipline shares more of their personal experiences and knowledge. This is the start of the de-escalation point, whereas the conflict is resolved when everyone acknowledges and understands that everyone’s discipline was impacted equally in different ways.
