Group 5: How listening aids in conflict resolution
Description
Please play on speed x3, thanks :).
Welcome to Hillsdale Elementary School! Today, we will be looking at the conflict case of Laura, a 5-year old child. A little background story about her: Laura was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. She has been physically aggressive towards people because she gets overwhelmed by the noise when she is in a large group setting and can’t express herself. As well, possibly food insecurity in the home environment is compounding the students aggressive reactions due to hunger.
A meeting is taking place at the school with Laura’s mother, Olivia, and several professionals, including Natasha a behavior therapist, Minyuan the early childhood assistant, Ella an early childhood educator, Aisha the dietitian and Jigme the school nurse. They will search for alternative solutions and services that can be included at the school to manage Laura’s behavior, keep her healthy, and support her learning.
