Gr.6: This land is your land, this land is my land

Description

The Regent Park Community Hub organized an interdisciplinary team to take on the initiative to renovate an empty lot next to their building into a space that could meet the needs of the community members. The interdisciplinary team includes: 2 social workers, a child and youth care practitioner, a land developer, a developmental service worker and a manager of community services. Conflict is beginning due to the interdisciplinary team competing for the use of the space against the city developer. The struggle within the organization is meeting vision, mission and organizational mandate, while developing a plan for sustainability. The staff are advocating for the land to be used to the best of the advantage for the clients, to be accessible, affordable and open to both youth and seniors. Conflict also emerges between the varying interests of different staff members. The city planner is looking at financial sustainability and their own individual plans. Both the city and the organization need to meet to discuss community engagement strategies to help clarify the needs of the community vs the City’s expectations.
