Clinical Conflict - Group 9
Description
Our conflict takes place in a clinic setting during the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Nurse Kesharaa talks to a patient and their family, who is showing signs of COVID-19. Nurse Kesharaa inputs this info into their online record as she usually would and continues her duties. However, this information was not saved due to tech issues. Nurse Sally comes in to see the patient (as the most recent check-in was not recorded), but the patient and their family are frustrated that they have to repeat themselves and nurse Sally is confused.
Nurse Sally talks to Nurse Kesharaa to discuss and they realize a tech issue has occurred. They call the IT team, Kelsi and Akif, for support and the social worker to help talk to the family about how this issue impacted their care. During this time, OHS Consultant Brandy was scheduled to come in to discuss some additional safety processes as the prevalence of COVID-19 increases. Biases, miscommunication, and fear causes conflict between the interdisciplinary team as they place blame on each other. OHS consultant Brandy somewhat takes on a mediator role to resolve this conflict.
