Description
Toronto General COVID-19 Fund Allocation Meeting
Our conflict takes place in Toronto General Hospital as representatives of each
department meet to discuss the reallocation of funds which is necessary in order to
cope with the COVID-19 pandemic. The reallocation of funds will reduce funding for
certain programs and departments within Toronto General Hospital. Representatives
from the departments of Social Work, Nursing, Environmental Sustainability and
Psychology are present in the meeting, expressing their opinions on how funding should
be reallocated and how it will affect their department’s work.
After each department has had a chance to present their perspectives and opinions, the
four representatives agree that the Psychology Department will maintain its funding
with no alterations in order to address the rising need for Mental Health services during
the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the social work, nursing and environmental
sustainability representatives begin to argue over who deserves increased funding, and
who’s department should forfeit a portion of their funding. Danielle, the social work
representative, believes more funding is needed to maintain staff in her department,
and ability to keep specific programs running. Neeroja, the nursing representative,
advocates that additional funding is required for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE),
to keep staff and patients safe. Bianca, the environmental consultant believes increased
funding is needed to invest in environmental friendly equipment. Brit, the Psychology
Department representative, takes on the role of mediator to reduce the tension that has
risen due to the disagreements, and hopes to resolve the conflict with the collaboration
of the other three department representatives.
