Team 3 - Ethical Dilemma on COVID-19 boosters
Description
Team 3 - Ethical Dilemma on COVID-19 boosters: Where do we draw the line?
The Empowerment Wellness Center is a community-based organization that provides services including medical, counseling, dietary, and literacy programs to its marginalized community. The organization is currently experiencing an uproar among its staff, as some employees refuse to take the COVID-19 vaccine boosters. Being a community-based organization, executive leadership insists on a double vaccine and booster shot mandate.
Some staff believes that the vaccine booster should be optional for various reasons. First, the government states that once you have two doses of the vaccine, you are considered fully vaccinated. Secondly, they are not in direct contact with service users; therefore, they are not at an increased risk of contracting or spreading the Covid 19 virus. Thirdly, employees who are against the vaccine boosters have expressed that the organization is being oppressive in demanding more of its employees than what the government requires of its citizens. Furthermore, mandates are not law, and the company is not being respectful of its employees' freedom of choice.
