Description

During a dinner party, a group of five friends find themselves discussing Artificial Intelligence (AI) after one of our group members introduces a significant development in AI. This development will spark a debate about the impact of AI on each member's discipline. Miah and Carla Mae will advocate for the use of AI, while Madeline and Nordon will take an opposing stance against it, and Shaelyn will present arguments from both sides. Each member will approach the argument using different conflict handling styles. Carla Mae will use an collaborating style, Tenzin will adopt the compromising style, Miah will take the competing approach, Madeleine will take on an avoidant style, and Shaelyn will provide a compromising perspective. As the discussion unfolds, Shaelyn will recognize valid points for and against AI, ultimately leading her to a mediator role. Together, the group will implement conflict resolution strategies to de-escalate the situation. Shaelyn will help guide the team toward common ground by encouraging open discussion and mutual respect for each other’s perspectives. Ultimately, the group will agree that while AI presents many concerning risks, however, these issues are not inherently caused by the technology itself. Rather, concerns arise by how humans choose to develop and apply it. The team concludes that without prioritizing environmental sustainability, maintaining strong human oversight and using AI responsibly its impact can be overwhelmingly negative. This final position reflects a balance of all viewpoints, acknowledging that AI holds great potential for good, but in the wrong hands, it can lead to serious harm.
