Team 9: Communication is Essential

Description

Our client, an 85-year-old male requires assistance with hygiene and activities of daily living. The nutritionist and recreationist observe the patient and notice the client has a soiled garment, unruly hair, and an unmade bed. The nutritionist and recreationist assume that the nurse is neglecting the care of the client, and is unable to properly meet the needs of the client. Since the client was not prepared for the day by the nurse, the nutritionist and recreationist could not perform their tasks and complete their work. The nutritionist, reactionist, and primary nurse begin to argue. The primary nurse escalated the situation to the charge nurse, who attempted to explain that the client’s needs were not the priority for the primary nurse as there were patients who were more unstable. The social worker overhears the conflict, and suggests a team meeting to discuss and suggest interventions to promote client health. The social worker reviews both perspectives on the situation and can act as a mediator for the conflict. After the team meeting, the primary nurse, nutritionist, and recreationist can reconvene and resolve their conflict.
