Group 2: Impact Of Covid 19 On Workplace

Description

An interest-based conflict among five different people started off between a homeless patient (Steve) presenting to the hospital with COVID-19 symptoms and a nurse in an acute hospital. The conflict started when the nurse (Tutu) refused to continue care as per the doctor’s directive because she has a child who is highly susceptible to COVID-19. Tutu insists Steve cannot stay because she doesn't want to be exposed more so Steve is not vaccinated. This does not sit well with the patient (Steve) because he feels he is not ready to be discharged. Steve does not feel safe enough to go back outside. In addition to this the shelter will not take him in because he has COVID symptoms and the hotel quarantine rooms are all booked. The conflict escalated when the two parties assumed each other’s intentions to be malicious. Two other hospital workers intervened (social worker Shana and Patient care coordinator Camille). However, the two workers were also unable to reach a solution. Tension arose between Tutu and a Public Health Inspector (Zoonash) who is among the three other professionals trying to resolve the conflict and the situation kept on getting worse until there was an intervention by the legal advisor (Riley). Eventually, the conflict was resolved by satisfying the need of both parties to protect their interest.
