Time Management Tension

Description

Thomas, a 16 year old boy is in rehab after he had been caught smoking marijuana by the police. This rehab takes place at a hospital. Thomas needs to take medication everyday that helps him with his anxiety. Thomas was diagnosed with anxiety which seems to be related to his drug addiction. He needs to take these pills at noon everyday, which the nurse gives him. But, everyday from 11-1 pm, the client is in a group session that involves group counselling with other youth aged 14-24. Everytime the nurse comes to give the client his pills she disrupts the whole group. Although she tries to do so in a quiet manner, Thomas get’s angry and aggressive so it takes much persuasion and time for the client to take his pills. The Early Childhood Educator is fed up with the Nurse interrupting her session everyday. She believes there must be another way or another time to give Thomas his pills. Usually it takes 15-20 minutes out of the session so the ECE is starting to lose all of her patience. The conflict will be addressed by trying to look at if the time of the session can be moved or if the time that Thomas takes his pills can be moved. ?After much discussion, the social worker, the nurse, CYW, and ECE all come to conclusion that a 5 minute break will be taken at noon everyday during the group session. The ECE admits that the 2 hour session is very long and the youth get very restless. By having this 5 minute break it will allow the nurse to give Thomas the pills, and will give the rest of the youth a 5 minute break to use the bathroom, go for a walk, or stretch.
