Team 4: Bullying DL0/821

Description

Stuart is a target of bullying by three kids in his school. They know Stuart has a physical disability and uses assistive devices including and iPad in the classroom. One day after school the three kids approached Stuart and asked if they could see his iPad. Stuart said no and tried to leave but the kids started to call him names and one of the boys grabbed Stuart’s backpack while the other two grabbed Stuart. There was a struggle and Stuart was yelling at the kids to leave him alone. The scuffle drew attention of other students who were nearby and they went to get help. Stuart ended up with some cuts and bruises and a broken iPad. The other kids were not injured. The principal contacted the parents of the kids involved while Stuart was being attended to in the nurse's office. The parents of the students who bullied Stuart felt bad for what happened but also felt that the school was responsible. They feel Stuart has an unfair advantage over other students in the classroom including their children by being allowed to use an iPad. They argue that if Stuart is allowed to use an iPad then all the students should be able to use a iPad and the school should provide one for every student or not allow it at all. They are blaming the school and feel the school is responsible for what transpired.
