Team 5
Description
This scenario takes place in an automotive manufacturing company. A welding robot is responsible for welding two pieces of metal together. The final piece is then placed on a table for human operators to do the finishing touches. The operators were complaining that even with current safety precautions, such as wearing gloves, the metal is still too hot to touch and work on– despite quota pressures from management. An official complaint was submitted by one of the operators to Health and Safety and HR. This resulted in the human resource, health and safety and program management departments getting together for a meeting. The conflict escalated due to the program management wanting to save money and implement a wait time, the health and safety department wants to avoid any future incidence by purchasing a cold-blast that cools the welded parts immediately, and human resources thinks that focusing on implementing policies and training to teach employees is how to avoid injuries.
All groups decide that it would be best to have a meeting to discuss the pros and cons of all ideas. This allowed for every department to voice their opinions and concerns regarding the safety issues with the welding robot.
