Building an Oil Pipeline in Alberta

Oil is an important resource that is used globally in a variety of ways. As time has progressed, it has become a necessity for all humans for transportation and electricity among other oil-reliant activities. Canada is a large producer of oil with many oil sands in the province of Alberta. Our interdisciplinary team will be discussing the building of a new pipeline in the province. This topic has real world relevance as the building of pipelines has been a controversial debate within the province. Hares will discuss and analyze the economic benefits, Kassia and Julia will analyze political and environmental implications, respectively, and Austyn will analyze the technological resources that will be needed to build the pipeline. Various conflict styles will be represented with each of us competing to display our logic and the morals and the ethics involved in building the pipeline. In the end, this conflict will have a third party mediation and it will be managed through actively listening to each other’s opposing views. Austyn, the tech will be presenting the data and the technology that would be required to build the pipeline. She is neutral and does not sway one way or the other about the pipeline. Is there to present data and show all the facts to all parties involved. Hares, the economist/economic analyst will mainly display a competing style to explain the economic benefits of a pipeline being built. He is a conservative who only thinks about money, profits, and economic growth. Kassia, the political contributor, will focus on the ethics of the pipeline questioning the impact it has had on Canadian communities, more specifically the indigenous community. She is an idealist who wants the minority to have a voice in the creation of the pipeline. Julia, the environmentalist, will study the effects of building an oil pipeline, she will be representing the environmental perspective of what is oil and pipelines as well as how they are used, and the overall effects that oil and pipelines have on the environment. She will be fighting against the pipeline being built and is revealed as a persistent, passionate and determined individual. She is a defendant in her field of study and will fight for the environment, and will do what it takes to stop this event from taking place.
