Team 6: Escalation at the Hospital
Description
A son complains about the treatment their parent is receiving at the hospital after a workplace-related injury, both from the nurses and the occupational therapist. He complains to the nurse frequently, who goes to Human Resources after the behavior escalates. The escalation includes rearranging equipment in the room including the equipment used for physical therapy, leaving extensive and excessive notes for the staff, and raising his voice to the nurse when she is in the room taking care of the client. When she speaks to him about his behavior, he threatens to go to the media to “expose” the hospital for what he believes is bad treatment.
The nurse is feeling like she cannot properly care for the client anymore, and feels uneasy in her job. She goes to her HR contact to file a formal complaint. The Health and Safety Department invites all parties involved and explains how each scenario could of been deescalated with controls in place.
