The Concussed Conflict
Description
Johnny is a 16-year-old grade 10 student, who suffered a concussion as a result of a physical altercation with another student off the school grounds during a hockey tournament. As a result of post-concussion symptoms, Johnny is unable to manage his academic work and has been absent from school lately. School staff, specifically Johnny’s homeroom teacher and science teacher, have brought information about this recent change in Johnny to the principal's attention.
The principal referred Johnny for help from the school nurse, social worker, and the Child and Youth Worker. Johnny’s strange behaviour leads school staff to wonder if Johnny is suffering from something other than post-concussion symptoms. Johnny’s mother has also become concerned with her son’s health and well-being. The social workers wonders if there is something more serious going on. To get to the root of the problem, Johnny’s mother decides to seek to “resolve this problem once and for all." The principal refers Johnny to seek the help and counselling from the school’s professional support staff.
