An Interdisciplinary Conflict

Description

The following scenario demonstrates an interdisciplinary team conflict between, a teaching assistant, a school nurse, a school social worker, two early childhood educators, and an occupational health and safety worker from the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). To start, Jessica was taken down to the nurse's office by her TA after she noticed Jessica has not been eating her lunch and has been complaining of stomach pains while showing signs of irritability. The nurse will come to the conclusion that Jessica just has the common flu and is most likely overtired. After the TA suggests that Jessica has some anxiety issues and a learning disability, the school social worker, ECE's and Occupational Health and Safety inspector are called in to determine what might be the cause of Jessica's illness. Each discipline believes that they know the reason as to why Jessica is sick and must determine the cause of her stomach pains as soon as possible. The group will need to utilize active listening, communication skills, suspension, transformative conflict practices, and work together so they can create an effective intervention plan for Jessica. But can they do it?
