Women and Food Security

Description

Follow the lives of three women as they set out on their food shopping trips at a their local Parkdale supermarket. Although appearing to be a simple and routine task, these women all face difficulties in securing the needed food for their families. As these women look to find “sufficient, safe and nutritious food” that meets their respective “dietary needs and food preferences”, one can see three informative perspectives on the topic of food security and the difficulties many individuals face during their day-to-day lives (Module 8, 2017). Mary Young, a mother of two and wife of Benjamin Young, faces difficulties in providing quality and nutritious food for her family, with expensive rent and increasing expenses to provide for her children. Rona, a refugee seeking safe haven in Canada with her two young children, encounters trouble as she looks to secure culturally appropriate food required for her upcoming holy month. Lastly, follow Susan as she looks to find food that is safe for her rising blood pressure, on her limited food budget.
