Low Sugars, High Tensions
Description
Jacques is a six-year-old child enrolled in grade one at a local public school. Jacques requires frequent nursing care for management of his Type 1 diabetes in the academic setting. The client’s mother expresses frustration and concern about a recent incident negatively affecting Jacques health. Conflict arises as the new staff nurse misunderstands the mother’s frustration and becomes defensive. As tensions rise, Heidi contacts her supervisor, then speaks to Jacques' teacher, Reema, to find out more about the situation. The nursing supervisor calls a group meeting.
A group meeting is held among the interdisciplinary team in order to discuss the incident that occured the previous week, define the roles of each team member in relation to Jacques care, and develop an individual plan of care for Jacques to prevent incidents from occurring in the future. A resolution and plan is developed and each team member is satisfied with the outcome.
