Timmy's Struggles in School - Team 1
Description
Timmy is a 5-year-old boy currently in kindergarten. In the classroom environment, Timmy seems to be exhibiting increasingly aggressive behaviour, as the ECE and EA notice his shift in mannerisms, and during a one-on-one discussion, Timmy confides in the classroom support team that his home life situation is not the greatest. Feelings of concern begin to develop between the ECE and EA for Timmy’s well-being, which ultimately leads to these members of the classroom support team contacting the school social worker to call on a team meeting. During this interdisciplinary team meeting, tensions begin to rise as each member of the team begins to bring up conflicting perspectives on how to address Timmy’s situation. Differential power dynamics are highlighted within the meeting as each member believes that their professional opinion and experience are superior to the other’s, creating a rift in the team's working dynamic. In utilizing conflict resolution skills, each team member is able to come together to focus on the real issue at hand, Timmy’s well-being.
