Description

In order to respond to issues of poor nutrition in low-income and remote Indigenous communities, the Minister of Health creates an interdisciplinary group to develop a hospital-based nutrition improvement program. This specific team has public administration professionals, nursing experts, business management specialists, business technology professionals, and nutrition and food professionals, all with varied backgrounds, priorities, and values. However, as tensions grow as negotiations over legacy hospital IT systems lead to debates over patient data privacy, funding distribution, and conflicting definitions of success. The conflict comes to a critical turning point when personal values and professional responsibilities clash. Fortunately, by invoking integrative negotiation strategies guided by the "Orange Story," the team begins to disclose their underlying interests. Through teamwork, mediation, and mutual respect, the team works towards a creative and sustainable solution that addresses legislative, technological, financial, nutritional, and patient-centred needs.
