Team 4: Interdisciplinary Conflict—Treatment Plan

Description

The team of six interdisciplinary members meet to discuss a treatment plan for an individual who has used substances in the past and has been incarcerated before. The individual used to be sober but has recently begun to abuse substances again. The individual has committed a crime recently and is having a court hearing which could end up with the individual having to do jail time again. The case management team’s objective is to assess and develop an effective strategy to support the client to reduce the negative impact of using substances, which can reduce or eliminate the possibility of serving jail time. However, there is a division between the interprofessional team, a nurse and the criminologist believe a complete abstinence program is more effective compared to a harm reduction path, a method in which the remaining four professional team members believe is safer and more ethical.
