Communication and Punctuality as a Virtue

Description

Hawra, Nicole, Betty, Sharon and Hamida all work at a community centre. Hawra and Nicole lead the early childhood education in the early learning centre, Betty and Sharon lead the family kitchen and group meetings in the social department, and Hamida is the nursing manager of the community centre. The scenario starts with Sharon and Nicole discussing about Hawra's lateness for her shift. It has happened multiple times, but little did Hawra's co-workers know that she's been taking care of her recently disabled family member. As a new hire, she did not feel comfortable telling them that the reason she's been late is because she had to take care of everything at home before she leaves for work. While she feels uncomfortable to open up to Nicole about the situation, she decided to use avoidance to let the problems go by in hopes that it will just get better with time. Hamida calls up for a staff meeting to discuss the on-going events and issues happening at work. Nicole decided to indirectly call Hawra out for being constantly late. Others also have a strong opinion about punctuality and how it is important for the person as a social agent to show up for their positions in the community centre. With the lack of communication between Hawra and her co-workers, it has escalated the situation during the meeting. When the conflict got heated and Nicole directs her attention to Hawra, Hawra tears up, told them about her situation and walked out of the room. As Sharon and Betty go after Hawra to comfort and apoligize to her, Hamida speaks to Nicole about the tension between the two. After everyone has reached to an understanding that communication and punctuality are virtues in the workplace environment and it is necessary especially within all discipline and teams, everyone returns to the staff meeting with a clear mind. Nicole and Hawra apologizes to each other for their lack of communication and through mediation with both Hawra and Nicole, their conflict de-escalated and was resolved through communication and teamwork. The meeting moves forward to setting goals and improvements for the future, which allowed everyone to share their opinions in a safe environment.
