Schoolyard Conflict

Description

They are an interdisciplinary team working at an elementary school consisting of 3 school social workers, an ECE, a child and youth worker, and a health and safety worker. One day during lunch recess a fight breaks out between two young boys. This incident arises due to bullying based on social class where Jack (bully) picks on Justin (bullied). This incident began as a verbal altercation and ends with Justin breaking his arm. After the incident occurs, School Social Worker Melissa is assigned to child Justin and CAS Social Worker Aleena is assigned to child Jack. Health and safety representative Yasaman is also called in to review the health and safety issues that lead to this incident. Early Childhood Educator Jana and Child and Youth Care Worker Shannon who work in both of the children's classrooms are brought in to get a better understanding of the children's temperaments and possible causes of this altercation. When working to resolve the altercation between the two students, School Social Workers Melissa and Aleena come into conflict about how the case should be resolved which creates a divide between the interdisciplinary team. It takes the whole team working together and using their unique perspectives and strengths to resolve the conflict and lead to a satisfying resolution.
