The Table Between Us
Description
A family dinner brings together immediate and extended family members. During the meal, tensions arise around Rachel, a young adult whose drinking habits have become increasingly concerning. Younger family members believe it is time for an intervention and that Rachel needs professional treatment, while older relatives downplay the issue or refuse to acknowledge it, partly because of their cultural beliefs about family privacy and shame. Rachel, meanwhile, recognizes her drinking has increased but resents feeling controlled or labeled by her family. She insists that she wants to make changes in her own way and at her own pace, which some relatives interpret as denial. The conflict grows as family members talk about Rachel rather than with her, highlighting a lack of person-led healing.
