Elementary School Crisis

An Elementary school in our neighbourhood needs our Community Health Team to come in to assess a contagious epidemic of rashes and head lice in the school.The STUDENT (Adriana) began with these two contagious symptoms first and then it quickly spread within the school. The school is asking for the Community Health Team to come in to investigate to break the spread of this epidemic within the school. The Health Team includes - (Michelle)-RN, (Kara)-Social Worker and (Nebat) - Physician. The RN (Michelle) wants to use a Medical Model approach to deal with the schools contagious skin and lice condition. She feels if they are all treated medically and health teaching to all students about cross contamination and breaking the chain of infection, the school and students will be free of these infectious and contagious diseases. The Social Worker (Kara) feels if she has meetings to talk with the children and families then the reasons for the start of this infectious disease may be found and further spread could be stopped with proper education and resources. Where did this start , why and how? Is it because of a situation at Adriana’s home , environment, socioeconomic disparities…….ect. CONFLICT: so…….Michelle & Kara begin to argue back and forth about how they should be helping out , and how the team should begin to approach this situation in the school.
